I spent the past week up in Bellingham painting this mural! I will be honest, knowing how slowly I build up layers and generally not painter, I was a bit nervous to tackle this. The initial prep of endless sketching and studies made this possible. Below are some of my studies, I also spent a day at the aquarium sketching from life and taking photos. It was an incredible experience to paint this, to be able to focus solely on one project for 5 days straight. I look forward to the next one. . .
For those interested, I used Golden Acrylics with matte medium. Coated with a glossy isolation coat to seal it and finally, a satin varnish. The entire painting process took about 54 hours. I did have to call in back up. . . Aka my mom, on the last 2 days to help me with edging and putting on the final varnish. If I were to have done it all myself it would have easily been over 60 hours. A HUGE ‘thank you’ to her!!
