I've made a 2022 Riso wall calendar! This is something I've wanted to make for a long time, styled after the 70's calendar tea towels you find at the thrift store. The flowers are drawn from specimens around my neighborhood, there are still flowers in bloom!! This is printed in four colors on a warm cream paper. . . it looks much brighter in person.
With this calendar I tested out Press Paper Punch, a Seattle riso studio in addition to a print run with OutletPDX. I have worked with Outlet for all my riso prints previously and they are *amazing* but it would be great to get everything made a little closer to home and pop in the studio to work with the machines and test out papers. Unfortunately, press paper punch is still closed for studio hours and I'm still waiting on prints from them, I did the same calendar but on a different paper and will have a Cascadia poster! Super excited to see them when they're done and even more excited for when they open up studio hours. Luckily Outlet came through pretty quick and the calendars are available on Etsy! A new women-owned shop, Third Wave Mercantile, is opening up in the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall filled with locally made goods and vintage! I’m so happy to have a selection of work available in this super cool shop. The Georgetown Trailer Park Mall is a unique space filled with local goods, if you have never been, I highly recommend checking it out- it’s a parking lot filled with parked trailers as shops, each trailer is unique and are a collection of local artists and craftspeople.
Third Wave Mercantile will be having their grand opening this weekend on Nov 20th from 11-6pm. There will be snacks and refreshments! I will be there for sure, come hang out! The above photos are from Third Waves Mercantile’s instagram @thirdwavemercantile This year, I attempted inktober following Furry Little Peaches prompts, #peachtober. The prompt for each piece is listed as a caption. These were all done in gouache with some digital touch ups in procreate. Clearly didn’t finish, there are a couple others I don’t have in here. I haven’t developed a quick style I’m proud of yet. So doing these “quick” illustrations (which still take a couple hours) is a bummer process on my end. I really like the frog piece, and the sun/moon communicating is kinda cool but not a fan of any others.
Otherwise, I’ll be around at markets over the next couple months (including Bellingham!), have a new shop carrying my work, and working on some new things. I’ll have more info next week! :) New riso additions added to my Etsy shop! This is my first time making cards, which I am SUPER happy with (I love the back little logo!). I also experimented with converting a colored pencil drawing into riso, a challenging but fun exploration. The pinecone piece is 8.5" x 11" and the cards are 5.5" x 4.25".
I actually got to see these get printed in the OutletPDX studio and learn a bit more about riso which was a dream. If you're into riso prints, I highly recommend checking them out. I'll be selling these, and a few other color options at the next Greenwood Artwalk (Oct 8th 6-10pm) and the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall Monster Mash (Oct 9th 11-6pm) New riso prints! I took a few of my favorite scientific illustration program illustrations and turned them into riso prints. They look *so nice* in person and are on the smaller side. The Northern Spotted Owl is about 5”x7”, all others are 8.5”x11”.
They will be available on my Etsy on the next shop update coming soon. But I’ll have them in-person at the next Greenwood Artwalk this Friday and Saturday. At the Greenwood Art Collective Friday, 9/10, 5-10pm Saturday, 9/11 11-5pm Maybe I’ll see you there! I’ve been experimenting with fabric design for awhile and really love this print. It’s from an original colored pencil drawing of an ammonite. I was lent a sewing machine and figured out how to sew these (A HUGE thanks to YouTube). I’m not sure if this is a direction I want to go, as it was super time consuming to make these. . . But they are pretty cool.
As of now, I have two sizes: 8.5” x 4” pencil pouch at $15 each 8.5’’ x 8.5’’ mystery magical pouch?? At $20 each They’ll be available at the next Greenwood Art Collective Artwalk, which is a pretty big 2-day event Sept 10, 5-9pm and Sept 11, noon-5pm. I will post more info as the event draws nearer.
This series was done using both digital and traditional techniques. The illustrations were done from still lifes of my own items using ink. I then brought the scanned illustrations into procreate to color and design them digitally. This series showcases the tools for a few key areas of plastic free living. Feel free to share, comment and ask any questions!
My botanical insect series is up at Shorelake arts for a couple more weeks (ends June 26). It’s a pretty cool shop filled with local goods. I also have my insect series prints, postcards, and stickers available there while the series is up. If you’re looking to support local artists this is a good shop to check out.
